JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com-The General Election Commission (KPU) announced Saturday morning that the pair of incumbent President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Boediono won the presidential elections by 60 percent, but losing candidates refused to acknowledge the results.
KPU chairman Abdul Hafiz Anshary announced that SBY-BOediono pair collected 60.8 percent of total valid votes, followed by the pair of Megawati Soekarnoputri and Prabowo Subianto got 26.8 percent and the pair of Jusuf Kalla and Wiranto with 12.4 percent.
Yudhoyono, Boediono and the pair of Jusuf Kalla nd Wiranto attended the official announcement, but Megawati and Prabowo deliberately skipped it.
Also on attendance were Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) president Tifatul Sembiring and United Development Party (PPP) chairman Suryadharma Ali. Both PKS and PPP are members of Yudhoyono's coalition of parties.
KPU member Abdul Aziz said that KPU officially invited all presidential and vice presidential candidates. But if one pair did not attend, it’s beyond KPU’s control.
Gayus Lumbun from Megawati's Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle said that Megawati and Prabowo did not attend the announcement as a protest for what they claimed as rampant violations in the elections.
Kalla and Wiranto, although present at the announcement, did not sign the KPU document declaring Yudhoyono as the winner. Both Megawati and Kalla have said earlier that they would contest the election results to the Constitution Court.
